SparkReceipt supports multiple document formats and upload methods — taking photos of paper receipts is just one option.

Supported document types

SparkReceipt works with:

  • Physical receipts (photos taken with the mobile app)
  • PDF receipts
  • Email receipts (imported automatically from a connected mailbox or forwarded to your personal SparkReceipt address)
  • CSV files
  • Excel files
  • Word documents
  • HTML files

CSV, Excel, Word, and HTML files are most commonly used in the Business Documents & Bank Statements section of the app rather than for individual receipts.

Ways to upload receipts and documents

There are five ways to get receipts and other documents into SparkReceipt:

  1. Mobile app
Scan physical receipts with your phone's camera.

  2. Web app — single upload
Upload documents one at a time from your computer.

  3. Web app — mass upload
Upload up to 100 documents at once using the Mass Upload feature.

  4. Automatic email scanning
Connect your Gmail, Microsoft, or IMAP mailbox once and SparkReceipt imports new receipts from your inbox on its own. Included with the Elite subscription. See Automatic email scanning for setup. You can also run a one-off Email history extraction to pull in older receipts already sitting in the connected mailbox.

  5. Email forwarding
Forward individual receipts from any email inbox to your personal SparkReceipt inbound email address. Available on every plan. See How to forward e-receipts from your email.

Why this matters

This flexibility lets you capture receipts and documents from any source, so nothing is missed — whether it arrives on paper, in your inbox, or as a digital file.
