SparkReceipt can connect to bank and credit-card accounts so their transactions import automatically. Right now you can connect banks in the United States and Canada. The My bank isn't listed option searches a second partner's list of banks in your account's country, which helps when a US bank is missing from the first list. Outside the US and Canada, bank connections generally aren't available, so upload statements instead. SparkReceipt has no direct connection to payment apps (Venmo, PayPal, Wise, Revolut, SumUp, Countingup), point-of-sale systems (Square, Clover), marketplaces (Amazon, Walmart) or utility accounts. For all of those, upload the statement or transaction history they give you, or send their receipts to SparkReceipt by email.
How to check whether your bank can be connected
SparkReceipt does not keep its own list of supported banks. The bank list comes from our bank-linking partners, and it changes as banks join or leave. The quickest way to check is to try:
- Open Integrations in the left-hand sidebar and find the Bank accounts section (in the mobile app, open Bank accounts from the menu).
- Click Connect account.
- If SparkReceipt asks Where is your bank?, pick the country your bank is in. SparkReceipt marks the country it thinks is yours as Suggested.
- Search for your bank in the window that opens.
If your bank is not in the list for your country, close the window and try again with My bank isn't listed. That searches a second partner's list of banks in your account's country.
Connecting is done by an administrator or an Accountant on the account, and how many connections you can have depends on your plan. See Connect a bank account for automatic transaction imports for the full steps and the limits.
My bank or card isn't in the list
Some banks, credit unions and card issuers are not available through our partners, and SparkReceipt cannot add a bank to the list itself. If you can't find yours:
- Search again under My bank isn't listed, and try the name of the bank that actually holds the account as well as the brand name on your card.
- If the connection starts but ends with "Failed to connect account. Please try again.", try once more later. Banks sometimes have short outages. If it keeps failing, write to support with the bank's name.
- Upload statements instead. Download your monthly statement as a PDF, CSV or Excel file from your online banking and upload it as a bank statement. SparkReceipt extracts every transaction and matches them to your receipts, and this works for every bank in every country. See Bank statement extraction: the complete guide.
Transactions from statements and from connected accounts end up in the same Transaction Manager, so you can connect the banks that are available and upload statements for the rest.
Venmo, PayPal, Wise, Revolut and other payment apps
There is no direct Venmo, PayPal, Wise, Revolut, SumUp or Countingup connection. Some account providers do appear in the bank search under My bank isn't listed, so it's worth a search, and if yours is there you can connect it like a bank. Otherwise, most of these apps let you download a statement or transaction history as a PDF or CSV. Upload that file as a bank statement, the same way you would upload a bank statement, and SparkReceipt extracts the transactions so you can categorize them, match them to receipts, and turn them into expenses and income.
When you convert those transactions, money out becomes Expense and money in becomes Income. Transfers between the app and your own bank account are neither, so leave them unconverted or mark them as transfers. See Refunds, transfers and other special cases on bank statements.
Square, Clover and other POS systems
SparkReceipt does not pull sales data from a point-of-sale system. What you can do:
- Try uploading the payout or settlement report your POS gives you (PDF, CSV or Excel) as a bank statement, so each payout becomes a transaction.
- Or rely on your bank: card payouts from the POS land in your bank account, so they come in with your bank statement or bank connection, where you can record them as Income.
Amazon, Walmart and other online stores
There is no Amazon or Walmart account connection. Your order receipts and invoices arrive by email, so the easiest route is to send them to SparkReceipt:
- Turn on automatic email scanning so receipts in your Gmail, Microsoft or IMAP mailbox are picked up on their own.
- Or forward the e-receipts to your personal SparkReceipt address.
The card charges for those orders come in through your bank or card statement, where SparkReceipt matches them to the receipts. If one order receipt covers several separate card charges, see Matching transactions to receipts in the Transaction Manager.
Utility accounts
You can't connect an electricity, water, phone or internet account to SparkReceipt. Utility bills are ordinary documents: forward the bill emails, turn on email scanning, or upload the PDF, and SparkReceipt reads the amount, date and supplier like any other expense.
