Where you change the card for your SparkReceipt subscription depends on where you originally subscribed. Your subscription is always billed through the channel you bought it on — the web (Paddle or Stripe), the Apple App Store, or Google Play — so that is where the payment method has to be updated. Jump to the section that matches how you signed up.
Not sure which one applies?
- If you subscribed on the web (you upgraded in your browser and paid by card), your subscription is billed through Paddle or Stripe.
- If you subscribed on your iPhone or iPad, it is billed through your Apple Account (App Store).
- If you subscribed on an Android phone or tablet, it is billed through Google Play.
If you subscribed on the web (Paddle or Stripe)
Web subscriptions are managed from your account settings. You need to be the account owner or an admin to change billing details.
- Open SparkReceipt in your browser and go to Settings.
- Open the Subscription & Billing tab.
- Find your current plan and click the billing link below it:
- If your plan is billed through Paddle, the link reads Open billing portal.
- If your plan is billed through Stripe, the link reads Manage your subscription.
- The provider's secure billing portal opens. Update your card or payment method there, then save.
The portal (Paddle's or Stripe's) is where the new card is stored — SparkReceipt never sees or keeps your full card details. The link only appears for an organization that has its own active paid web subscription, so if you don't see it, check that you're signed in to the right account and that your plan was purchased on the web rather than through an app store.
If you subscribed on your iPhone or iPad (App Store)
App Store subscriptions are charged to the payment method on your Apple Account, not to a card stored in SparkReceipt. To change the card, update your Apple Account payment method:
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Settings app.
- Tap your name at the top.
- Tap Payment & Shipping, then edit, add, or reorder your payment methods.
You can review the SparkReceipt subscription itself under Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions. For full, up-to-date steps, see Apple's own guide: If you need to change or update your Apple Account payment method.
If you subscribed on Android (Google Play)
Google Play subscriptions are billed through your Google account. Update the payment method from the Play Store:
- On your Android device, open the Google Play Store app.
- Tap your profile icon in the top right.
- Tap Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions.
- Select SparkReceipt, then tap Manage and follow the on-screen steps to update the payment method.
For full, up-to-date steps, see Google's own guides: How to add, remove, or edit your Google Play payment methods and Cancel, pause, or change a subscription on Google Play.
About payment methods you add inside SparkReceipt
SparkReceipt also has a Payment methods feature in your settings (under Settings → Payment methods). These are for accounting only — they let you tag a receipt or transaction with the payment method it was paid with (for example "Business Visa" or "Cash") so your bookkeeping is accurate.
Payment methods you add or edit there do not change how your subscription is billed. Adding a card under Payment Methods will not move your subscription billing to it, and editing one will not update the card that charges you for SparkReceipt.
To change the card used for subscription billing, always use the provider-specific instructions above — Paddle or Stripe for web subscriptions, the App Store for Apple, or Google Play for Android.
