Why does my account still show Trial, Free or a payment problem after I paid?

What to check when SparkReceipt still shows a trial, the Free plan, an AppSumo lifetime deal as Free, a "payment didn't go through" notice after paying, or no Subscription & Billing page at all.

Your plan and its status are shown in the web app under Account settings → Subscription & Billing, in the Current subscription card. The status badge reads Active, Trial, Overdue or Expired. If what you see doesn't match what you paid for, the sections below cover the usual reasons. If none of them fits, write to us through the in-app chat or at support@sparkreceipt.com from the email address on your account, and include your invoice or store receipt.

It still says Trial after I paid

A website trial starts when you add your payment method at checkout, and it keeps the Trial badge until the trial's end date. The first charge is taken on that date. After it, the badge changes to Active. The card shows Your trial ends on with the date, so you can see when that happens. See How does the free trial work?

If the end date has passed and you were charged, but the page still says Trial:

  • Reload the page, or sign out and back in. The status can take a moment to update after the payment goes through.
  • Check you're in the right account. The subscription belongs to the account you bought it for and is shared with its linked accounts. If you have more than one login (for example one with Google and one with email), the purchase belongs to the login you used when paying. See What is my email address associated with my account?
  • Bought in the iPhone or Android app? The app confirms the purchase with Apple or Google. If it shows We haven’t confirmed your purchase yet, tap Check purchase, or reopen the app later. On an iPhone, Restore purchases on the Subscription screen moves an App Store subscription to the account you're signed in to, see Move Subscription from One Account to Another (Apple).

The "Update your payment method" notice won't go away

When a payment for a website subscription fails, the account owner sees Update your payment method in the web app, and the plan's badge on Subscription & Billing reads Overdue. The mobile app shows a similar notice. The notice clears on its own once our payment provider reports that the subscription is paid again.

If you have paid and the notice is still there:

  1. Reload the page or sign out and back in. The notice is loaded when you sign in, so an open page can keep showing it after the payment went through.
  2. Check the badge on Account settings → Subscription & Billing. Active means the payment was received.
  3. Check the billing portal. Click Open billing portal (Manage your subscription for older Stripe subscriptions) on the same page and make sure the card saved on the subscription is the one you want charged. Our payment provider retries the failed payment with the card saved there, so if you paid with a new card, add it in the portal. See Change the payment method on your subscription.

If the badge says Active and the notice still shows after you sign in again, contact support and we'll look into it.

My AppSumo lifetime deal shows as Free

An AppSumo lifetime deal is a plan unlocked with codes. It doesn't renew or bill you. On the web, Subscription & Billing shows the plan your codes unlock with LTD Tier and the number of codes, and the Owner can open Show redeemed codes to see them. The mobile app shows the plan with a Coupon badge.

If your account shows Free instead:

  • Check that you're in the account where the codes were redeemed. Linked accounts share the main account's plan, but a separate account (for example one created with another login) does not.
  • Update the mobile app to the latest version and open it again.
  • Check whether paid features still work. If they do, it's a display issue. If they don't, contact support@sparkreceipt.com with your AppSumo codes and we'll put it right.

Lifetime deals can't be managed with the Paddle billing portal, so contact support for any change to one.

I can't find Subscription & Billing in Settings

Subscription & Billing appears under Account settings only for users with the Admin or Owner role in the account you're currently in, and for Accountants whose Accountant permissions are set to Admin. Members and Contributors don't see it. Your role is shown under your name at the bottom of the left sidebar.

Roles are set per account. If you own your main account but are a Member in a linked account, switch to the main account to manage billing.

In the mobile app, the Subscription item in the side menu is shown only to the account's Owner.

If you are the Owner and still don't see it, check that you're signed in with the same login that created the account, see What is my email address associated with my account?
