Yes. SparkReceipt backs up your receipts and documents automatically — you don't need to do anything to enable it.

How SparkReceipt backs up your files

Your uploaded files are stored in Amazon Web Services, with the main repository in Stockholm, Sweden (EU) and a mirrored copy in archival storage in another EU region (Frankfurt, Germany). Files are encrypted both in transit and at rest. For the full picture of where your data lives and who can access it, see Is my data safe in SparkReceipt?.

These backups exist for disaster recovery. They aren't something you can browse or restore from yourself — if you need your own copy of your data, use the export described below.

Taking your own backup

You can export a copy of everything you've uploaded at any time using the Reports feature, in both the web and mobile apps:

  • Choose a date range covering the period you want — set it wide enough to span everything if you're taking a full backup.
  • Pick a format: CSV or Excel (XLSX) for the structured data, or PDF if you want a document you can hand to an accountant.
  • A PDF report can include the uploaded receipt images themselves, so your export contains the original files and not just the extracted values.

See How to create reports in SparkReceipt for the step-by-step, and Can I download all my documents from SparkReceipt? if you specifically want the files.

Taking a periodic export is worth doing if your bookkeeping or tax rules require you to hold your own records independently of any one provider.

After you delete your account

If you delete your account, your data may persist in database and file-system backups for a limited retention period — currently up to 30 days — purely for disaster recovery. It isn't read or processed in any normal workflow during that time. Export anything you want to keep before deleting, since the backups aren't a way to get your data back.
