SparkReceipt uses consumable credits to pay for AI-powered processing. They come in two kinds:
- Renewable credits — included with your plan, reset every month.
- Extra credits — bought in packs. They never expire, and are only used once your renewable credits are gone.
Credits are pooled across your whole account, so everyone on it draws from the same balance.
What credits are spent on
- Bank statement extraction — 1 credit per extracted transaction line, after a one-time free allowance of 3,000 lines.
- Document scanning — 10 credits per document, but only once your plan's monthly document quota is used up.
- Email history fetch — a fraction of a credit per processed email, after a one-time free allowance.
Two things that don't cost credits, despite being AI features:
- Scanning within your monthly quota. While you have document quota left, scanning costs nothing. Credits only come into play once the quota runs out — see Can monthly credits be used to scan more documents or receipts?.
- SparkAgent chat. The AI assistant is metered by messages per month, not by credits.
When credits renew
Renewable credits renew every month, back to your plan's full allowance.
Unused renewable credits don't roll over. Whatever you haven't spent by the time they renew is gone, rather than being added to the next month's allowance. Extra credits are different — they stay in your balance until you use them, however many months pass.
Checking your balance
Your current balance — split into renewable and extra credits — and your plan's monthly allowance are both shown on your subscription screen: Subscription & Billing in the web app, or the subscription section in the mobile app.
Check that screen rather than relying on a number quoted in an article. Your allowance depends on your plan, some accounts have custom arrangements, and the subscription plans currently offered differ between the mobile apps and the web app — so your own subscription screen is the only reliable source for your numbers.
Running low
Buy an extra credit pack from Subscription & Billing, or wait for the monthly reset. Upgrading your plan raises both the credit allowance and the document quota.
If you run out in the middle of something, see What happens if I run out of credits mid-task? — what happens depends on what you were doing.
