SparkReceipt has one layout for everyone. When we update the app, the new screens replace the old ones, so there is no setting to go back to an old screen, an old Home display or a previous version of the interface. You can't rearrange, hide, collapse or resize the left sidebar in the web app either. Dark mode is available in the iOS and Android apps under Profile → Preferences → Theme. The web app has no dark mode and no font size setting, but your browser's zoom makes everything smaller or larger.
If something you relied on is gone or harder to reach since an update, tell us. In the web app, open the chat button in the bottom-right corner and choose Request a feature or Send us a message. In the mobile app, open the menu and tap Request support.
The app looks different. Can I get the old screen back?
No. Older layouts can't be switched back on, for your account or anyone else's. The data is all still there: your documents, Categories, Tags and reports don't change when the layout does. The sections below show where the main things are today.
Where things are in the web app
The left sidebar holds the Add documents button, a search box and the main pages: Overview, Documents, Transactions, Months, Reports, Trips, Chat with SparkAgent, Mass upload, Tags, Merchants & Payers, Integrations, Trash bin and Account settings. Some entries only appear for certain roles, plans or account settings, for example Closed periods, AI Fields, Expense claims and Schedule C.
Your name at the bottom of the sidebar opens your user menu: Profile, Linked Accounts, Affiliate Program, Refer a friend, SparkReceipt Academy, Tutorials, Help & Support and Log out.
The chat button in the bottom-right corner opens support chat and SparkAgent.
The Help link at the top of the sidebar opens this help center.
The Home screen (Overview) in the web app
After you log in, the web app opens on the Overview: the Pending tasks and In progress cards, then cards for cash flow, review status, document types, profit and loss, and expenses and income by Category. There is no setting to choose a different start page, and the Overview cards can't be hidden or reordered.
If you'd rather start from your document list, click Documents in the sidebar and bookmark that page in your browser. See Using the Overview screen for what each card shows.
Can I customise, collapse or resize the sidebar?
Not today. The sidebar has a fixed width and order, and you can't add, remove or move items. What you can do:
- Fold the Documents and Months sections. Click the arrow next to Documents or Months to open or close its sub-list. SparkReceipt remembers how you left them.
- Make the browser window narrower. On a narrow window the sidebar moves behind a menu button at the top of the page, which gives the page the full width.
- Zoom out in your browser (Ctrl and minus on Windows, Cmd and minus on a Mac) to fit more on the screen.
Items you don't use can't be hidden. For example, Schedule C shows in the sidebar for US accounts that have it, and there is no switch to turn it off.
Can I hide the image preview while I edit a document?
No. When you open a document in the web app, the file preview and the form sit side by side, and there's no button to hide the preview or the sidebar. To see more of the line items and their full descriptions, zoom out in your browser or make the window wider.
You can also ask SparkAgent to fix the reading errors for you. Open the document, click Ask SparkAgent and say what to change, for example "Change the description of the second line item to 'Printer paper'". See How to use SparkAgent.
Dark mode
Mobile app (iOS and Android). Open the menu (the three lines in the top-left corner), tap Profile, then Preferences. Under Theme, choose:
- Automatic: follows your phone's light or dark setting.
- Light: always light.
- Dark: always dark.
Web app. The web app only has the light theme. There is no dark mode setting.
The text is too big or too small
The web app has no font size setting. Use your browser's zoom: Ctrl and plus or minus on Windows, Cmd and plus or minus on a Mac. Ctrl or Cmd and 0 resets it.
The mobile app follows your phone's text size. Change it in your phone's display or accessibility settings and SparkReceipt follows.
Where is Preferences?
Web app. Click your name at the bottom of the left sidebar and choose Profile. The Preferences section has Language, Region and Week starts on.
Mobile app. Open the menu, tap Profile, then Preferences. You'll find Language and Theme there. Region is under Profile → Edit profile.

Where things are in the mobile app
- Tabs at the bottom: Home, Documents, Scan (the button in the middle), Trips and Reports. The Trips tab only shows when Trips is available on your account.
- The menu (three lines, top-left): Profile, Account settings, Trash bin, Request support and more. Linked accounts is under Account settings.
- SparkAgent: the sparkle button in the top bar opens a chat with SparkAgent.
